Hyatt Regency Chicago
McHugh performed a large-scale renovation of the Hyatt Regency Chicago’s iconic glass box lobby for repeat client Hyatt Hotels. The transformation of the 60,000 sf space reshaped the guest experience for arrival, check-in, and dining. The first phase of this carefully scheduled project included construction of Market Chicago, a new grab-and-go dining facility; renovations to the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Stetson’s Modern Steak + Sushi; and the renovation of the reception facilities. The spaces in this first phase reopened on schedule at the end of 2012.
Near the end of the first phase, the lobby area was cordoned off from public access and the full-scale demolition of all the interior finishes began in an intense four-month period during which McHugh constructed a new lobby; a three-meal restaurant; and a new hotel entry as well as renovated the landmark Big Bar and the main hotel kitchen. All work was completed while the hotel remained in operation.
