Terminal 5 Concessions
McHugh and joint venture partner, Ornelas Construction, completed the redevelopment of the Terminal 5 concessions area at O’Hare International Airport. Crews demolished and reconfigured space within the existing concessions area and installed new MEP systems, drywall, and flooring, Work also included a redesigned, more efficient TSA checkpoint and features new lighting, signage, fixtures and other first class amenities while incorporating sustainable and recycled materials.
Since Terminal 5 remained in operation during construction, careful planning and precision were essential for minimizing any disruptions to the traveling public and airport personnel. The team created and implemented a six-phase building sequence that provided Westfield with portions of newly constructed, revenue-generating concession spaces very early in the construction process.
The McHugh/Ornelas team met the challenge of closely coordinating with over a dozen different supervisory agencies and stakeholders operating in Terminal 5 as well as coordinating the turnover of space to multiple contractors performing tenant build outs for over 15 different restaurants and retail spaces.
