Northwestern University Parking Garages

This project included the construction of two independent parking structures approximately two blocks apart at the University’s downtown campus. The first structure is a 12-story, 400,000 sf  facility with 1,250 spaces at the corner of Erie St. and Fairbanks Ct. The second structure is an 11-story, 700,000 sf facility with 2,002 spaces located at Huron St. and St. Clair Pl.

The structures include thirteen traction elevators, a 40,000 sf slurry wall retention system with external tiebacks and accommodations for future underground tunnels and overhead pedestrian bridges providing direct access to the planned hospital buildings. Due to the site’s proximity to Northwestern Hospital, extraordinary means were implemented to control noise and dust.

McHugh completed the Erie St. facility two months ahead of its already compressed 13 month schedule. The Huron St. facility was completed three months ahead of its 16 month scheduled completion.
