Elmhurst School District 205 Elementary & Middle Schools
McHugh has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Elmhurst Community School District 205 and has most recently served as construction manager for the expansion and renovation of 11 elementary and middle schools. McHugh worked all 11 schools with staggered starts, split into four phases. Each school got an addition along with upgrades to the existing structures.
The most significant work occurred at Hawthorne Elementary School, built in 1888, damaged by fire in 1917, and refurbished in 1921. McHugh constructed a new wing then rebuilt Hawthorne in sections while school remained in session. The construction safety program McHugh developed for Elmhurst’s York High School was equally effective for these smaller schools.
