51st Street Bridges

Chicago, IL Construction Project

McHugh rehabilitated 1,800 feet of roadway, rebuilding the exit ramp from the Norfolk Southern rail yard and replacing eighteen rail bridges along 51st Street in Chicago. Crews demolished the existing bridge structures and restored the concrete substructure. The project is located in an urban area with both freight and commuter trains passing through. Careful planning and coordination was required to ensure that train schedules were not adversely affected and that pedestrian and vehicular traffic along 51st Street proceeded safely.
