POSITION: VDC/BIM Project Manager

The VDC/BIM project manager will assist construction project teams with set up and implementation of project-specific VDC/BIM processes for construction phase activities and help to provide a seamless transition from the preconstruction phase to the construction phase in terms of VDC/BIM with an emphasis on facilitating effective collaboration and communications among all project stakeholders. The VDC/BIM project manager will work closely with project managers, engineers, and superintendents as well as clients, architects, and design-assist subcontractors. The position reports to the VDC/BIM Director.


As VDC/BIM project manager, you will:

  • Work with the concrete and building groups to determine appropriate use of various BIM applications
  • Support the VDC/BIM Director including:
    • Communicating the benefits of VDC/BIM and implementation processes to internal and external customers
    • Serving as point of contact with A/E team and subcontractors regarding BIM standards in an effort to facilitate a collaborative environment
    • Defining and implementing different processes for projects depending on contract type
    • Providing continuity between VDC/BIM activities during preconstruction and construction
    • Developing hardware and software standards to facilitate VDC/BIM implementation
    • Creating a common construction-related element library (cranes, hoist, scaffold, etc.)
    • Creating standards for modeling (naming conventions, layers, metadata etc.) including progression standards regarding the “Level of Detail (LOD)” required at each stage of design and construction
    • Developing a training program to share procedures, protocols, standards, lessons learned, and best practices
    • Developing both “Gap models” as required to support the project specific BIM execution plan and facility/asset management service offerings
  • Support preconstruction and estimating activities including:
    • Performing quantity take-offs and value engineering studies
    • Creating estimate assumptions and qualifications through visual representations in lieu of written narratives
    • Drafting building system special studies (envelope, foundations, MEP, etc.)
    • Contract reviews
    • BIM Execution planning and scope visualizations
    • Assisting with preparation of 3D constructability reviews and the development of 2D and 3D site logistics plans
  • Support construction activities by creating, implementing, and maintaining project-specific BIM execution plans including:
    • Establishing file structure and data exchange formats
    • Defining level of development standards, color coding / layer / naming / metadata conventions of systems and components
    • Organizing the management of modeling scope and subcontractor requirements
    • Supporting collaboration with project architect, design consultants and, when applicable, design-build contractors and subcontractors
    • Providing continued quality control of modeling standards throughout the coordination process to ensure BEP standards are followed in an effort to remove follow on model use (FM/Asset & As-Built Modeling)
  • Facilitate the utilization of 4D models for schedule and sequencing visualizations
  • Implement electronic document management system, collaboration tools, and cost and schedule tracking procedures
  • Lead and assist “BIM to Field” transition effort including:
    • Early identification of processes with high initial project value
    • Set up of initial process workflow
    • Set up of as-built model standards, process and workflow
    • Continued support throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Support other project-specific goals for utilization of VDC/BIM processes


To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture
  • 7 to 10 years of combined construction and design-related BIM experience or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience (construction management or technical training preferred)
  • A thorough knowledge Autodesk Revit and Navisworks, Tekla Structures, Assemble Systems, Dprofiler, Trimble Sketch-Up, Synchro, Bentley, Vico Office and miscellaneous energy modeling software and a broad knowledge of BIM related software and visualization tools processes
  • To be a self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Experience in construction scheduling, estimating, and related functions plus thorough knowledge of MS Office and Project.
  • A thorough understanding of building types, systems (MEP and Envelope) and design/construction process
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) including teaching, mentoring and coaching skills
